Swap background, resize, hit a target KB — photos never uploaded

A larger value replaces a wider range of colors
Common: 20-100KB for ID submissions
How background replacement works: the four corner pixels are sampled as the original background color, and pixels of similar color are replaced with the new one. Solid backgrounds (blue/white/red) work best; complex backgrounds may leave residue — increase the tolerance or use a dedicated cutout tool.

About this ID Photo tool

Exam sign-ups, social security and job applications all demand electronic ID photos with very specific requirements: white background, 295×413, under 50KB. Photo studios are a hassle and professional software is overkill. This tool does everything in your browser: after upload it auto-crops to the target ratio (slightly upward to keep the face centered), replaces the background color, then binary-searches JPEG quality until the file drops within your target KB.

The photo never leaves your computer — everything is computed locally, nothing is uploaded, and your privacy stays protected.

How to use

  1. Click or drop a front-facing photo (solid background works best)
  2. Pick a size (1-inch 295×413, 2-inch 413×579, or custom) and a background color
  3. Set a target file size (e.g. under 50KB for submissions)
  4. Click "Generate" to preview, then "Download image" once you're satisfied

FAQ

Background swap looks bad — what now?
Background replacement samples the four corner pixels as the original color, then replaces similar ones. Solid backgrounds (blue cloth, white wall) work best; if the background is busy or shadowed, raise the "background tolerance" and retry, or use a photo with a cleaner background.
What are the standard ID photo sizes?
1-inch 295×413 (most sign-ups and resumes), small 1-inch 260×378, 2-inch 413×579 (passports and visas are usually 35×45 mm or 413×531), large 2-inch 413×626. Always follow the requirements of the sign-up system.
How to hit exactly under 50KB?
Enter 50 in "Target file size" and the tool binary-searches the best JPEG quality that stays within the limit while keeping sharpness. If the source image is very large, also lower the "max side length".
Are photos uploaded to a server?
No. All cropping, background replacement and compression run locally in your browser via Canvas; the photo data never leaves your device.
